Since moving to Oklahoma, one of the repeat trips we’ve made is down to Waco, TX. Even before our first visit, we heard great things about this location, so we knew we would have good times in Waco.
Before Oklahoma, one of my wife and I’s favorite shows to watch together was Fixer Upper on HGTV. The 2 main figures for the show are very charismatic and have done a lot to build Waco up. The popularity of the show and the amazing job they do renovating homes with updated southern charms has turned Waco into a tourist hotspot.
One of the more famous attractions in Waco are the Shops at the Silos. Even if you’re just looking to enjoy a day out and about, the Silos are definitely worth checking out.
On the grounds, there are a number of noteworthy attractions. Several shops scattered throughout the facility, offer products ranging from plants, purses, furniture, and home goods. There is an open area with outdoor games that the patrons can enjoy including cornhole boards and even a pet area.
Additionally, there are several food vendors (food trucks and stands) that offer a variety of tasty choices. They also have a coffee shop that Kelly absolutely loved.
Being a bit of a flower enthusiast, Kelly really enjoyed the gardens and greenhouses located throughout the grounds.
Another great excursion we enjoyed, was a relaxing river cruise/tour down the Brazos River hosted by the awesome Waco Tours. This being the longest river in Texas, it did not disappoint. This particular cruise started at the Baylor University football stadium and took us through the scenic waterways.
We took the opportunity to check out one of the local restaurants. Located, literally right next to the Brazos river, Slow Rise on the Brazos offers great food and drinks. We savored “The Butcher” pizza which featured an array of different meats while I sipped on one of their many bourbons.
Another fan favorite of Waco is the ever-popular Magnolia Table. The menu features many country-style, scratch made offerings that will make your mouth water. Nestled in downtown Waco, Magnolia table does not disappoint. With that being said, it does draw a decent crowd so if you are planning on visiting, we suggest making reservations or arriving early in the AM, as tables fill up quickly.
That’s it for this post, but don’t worry we’ll be back with Good Times in Waco Part 2. This is Fritz Thompson wishing you all the best and safe travels.
